You are thinking of selling a Motor Car, Motorcycle, Bicycle, Automobilia or indeed your complete collection.
So - what you really want is the most money in the fastest time possible.
That's exactly what we want you to get as well and we will deliver it. Here are some common questions.
Prospective vendors are also respectfully advised to read the Terms and Conditions of Sale printed on the entry form carefully before entering any lot as they form the terms of your contact with us.
- What do you want to know about my entry and its history?
- Is there anything I can do to help the final sale price?
- Can I set a Reserve Price?
- What are your charges and how does what the Auction House charges affect me?
- When will I get paid?
- Will I get a top price for my entry though?
- When can I deliver my entry?
- Will you still accept my entry if it has been accident damaged or I owe money to a Finance Company?
- What else do I need to know?
- How can I get further information?
What do you want to know about my entry and its history?
As much as possible. We will only describe the actual entry in the catalogue, and not the history of the 'marque' unless of course
it is of specific historic interest. A full description of the condition of the entry is required along with details of any interesting information - in other words anything that will help us sell it to potential buyers.
Remember, when you are selling something, it is a good idea to put yourself in the position of a buyer - what information would you want to know to help you buy the item?
Is there anything I can do to help the final sale price?
Yes. It is naturally important that entries are shown in their best light and to that end it should be thoroughly cleaned and prepared, including the engine bay, boot and wheels and any cosmetic defects should be corrected where applicable. We do have valeters on site to remove delivery grime, but they cannot and will not prepare your vehicle for you.
Please also remember that all the paperwork and spares (anything that is being sold with the entry) MUST be with it when it is delivered so this can be viewed by any interested parties.
Can I set a Reserve Price?
Yes. However, if the entry is patently too expensive we will not accept it so please ensure that the reserve price you set is the minimum price you will accept. In fact a very sensible reserve, which leads to a low estimate, will bring in more bidders.
If you require advice on values please do not hesitate to contact us and please remember that we do operate a system of provisional bids, which means that we shall submit any offer made for your acceptance or rejection.
Reserves are not disclosed under any circumstances. For Automobilia, please contact the department to discuss Reserves.
What are your charges and how does what the Auction House charges affect me?
Please go to the Charges page where we have fully detailed our charges.
However, in brief we charge an entry fee, which includes an entry into our comprehensive full colour catalogue and on our web site, and a seller's commission (both subject to VAT).
When will I get paid?
For Motor Cars, Motorycles and Bicycles we send proceeds out eight working days after the sale via first class post. Automobilia proceeds are sent out nine working days after the sale via first class post.
Aand that's a promise.
Will I get a top price for my entry though?
We usually get up to 2000 genuine buyers attending our sales and they come from all over the world. Naturally all the main collectors, museums, institutions and dealers are aware that your entry is for sale with us by direct mail, but we also advertise extensively throughout the world in all the major publications.
Don't forget that with new people coming into the market daily it helps considerably that full descriptions and photographs of ALL our lots on our website so that buyers from all over the world can view the items 24 hours a day.
All this guarantees you the best result possible - the low charges are simply an extra bonus!
We have set many world records for prices achieved and sell on average 80% of all the lots entered into our sales.
When can I deliver my entry?
Please arrange for the motor cars, motorcycles and bicycles to be delivered to the auction site two days (typically a Monday) prior to the sale between 9am and 5pm - no entries are accepted on the day of the sale. Automobilia must be delivered to the office at least a calendar month before the auction via prior arrangement with the department.
If you need help with transportation please do not hesitate to contact the office and we will be only too pleased to help.
Will you still accept my entry if it has been accident damaged or I owe money to a Finance Company?
We do not under any circumstances accept motor cars that are on the alert register as having been accident damaged or written off by an Insurance Company. If this information was not known at the time but subsequently comes to light then the motor car will be returned to you and all costs and commissions incurred will be have to be met by you.
Where a financial encumbrance is outstanding this can be settled by us, providing the outstanding amount is less than the sale proceeds, however there will be an administration charge.
What else do I need to know?
Please be aware that vehicles are not accepted without the current logbook or V5. If this is to follow please be aware that no payment will be made until we receive the logbook or indeed any other documentation or items that have been sold with the vehicle.
How can I get further information?
